Alice Ader began her studies with Geneviève Dehelly in 1954. Four years later, in 1958, she was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris where she studied piano with Lucette Descaves and chamber music with Jacques Février, graduating in 1963 with a unanimous first prize. 1966 brought her a gold medal in the Marguerite Long Conpetition. Three years study in Vienna followed with Bruno Seidlhofer at the Akademie für Darstellunde Kunst where she immersed herself in the works of the Viennese composers.
A quintessentially French pianist, Alice Ader plays the French/Belgian repertoire as it should be played. Her recordings of Franck, Lekeu, Debussy and Ravel are just beautiful and leave nothing to be desired.
But Alice Ader's Schubert is heavenly, and her Scarlatti sonatas, though not my first choice when I am in an early 18th century mood, are excellent and capture the essence of the original harpsichord articulation wonderfully.
Alice Ader is a first class pianist, chamber musician, and accompnist who has had a stellar career as a concert pianist in France and is virtually entirely unknown in the USA.
