On this page, Horowitz plays concerti by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. We have examples of the Rachmaninoff third concerto from the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 70s; of the Tchaikovsky first from the 1930s, 40s and 50s; a titanic recording with Rodzinski from 1952 of the Beethoven "Emperor", and a wonderful glimpse of Horowitz, the pianist and the man, at the end of a glorious 50 plus year career as one of the world's leading pianists as he rehearses and performs the Mozart A major.
Though I do not think of Brahms when I think of Horowitz, the recordings from the 30s and 40s of the D minor and B♭ major concerti make me wish he had recorded and performed more of this great composer's works.
But the 1943 excerpt from the Rachmaninoff D minor under Rodzinski is Horowitz at his ferocious best.
