Malcuzynski plays Concerti by Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff. I was very fortunate to have been introduced to the 1963 recording of the Rachmaninoff third when I embarked on what is now my fifty year Journey into the glorious realm of magnificent piano playing. It is still among my very favorites, something that cannot be said of many recordings through which I became intimate the great piano music of the last 250 years.
While I would place the recording of the Chopin F minor conducted by Susskind in the same category, the Brahms D minor concerto has been supplanted among my favorites by several others. Still, it is a very fine performance, and if it has lost some of its luster in my appreciation, it is certainly for no significant reason. The same can be said for the other recordings on this page, though I came to them later and do not experience the same thrill of first discovery when I hear them. They are very fine and very satisfying.
