VLADIMIR BELOV
Russian pianist (1906-1989)

Vladimir Belov was a student of Felix Blumenfeld. His fellow students included Maria Grinberg (whom he himself continued to teach after their master's death in 1931), Simon Barere and Vladimir Horowitz. Belov taught at the Moscow Conservatory and at the Kiez Conservatory. Among his students were Stanislav Neuhaus, Andrei Volkonsky and Edison Denisov.

I have only two recordings to share with you, both by his teacher. Though hardly known today, Belov was  unquestioably a formidable pianist as is demonstrated by the two Blumenfeld etudes to be heard below.

Blumenfeld  Etude in G minor, Op 14 "Sur mer"

Blumenfeld  Concert Etude in F minor, Op 24

For those of you who enjoy murder mysteries, here is my first with a strong musical polemic as background

Murder in the House of the Muse

which is also available as an audiobook.

And this is the more recently published second mystery in the series:

Murder Follows the Muse
